Application Model Software Deployment Best Practices

SCCM 2012 introduced a new “application model” for software deployment.  Policies regarding this model of distributing software are covered in this document, which has been through Policy Committee review.

As the campus community discovers best practices pertaining to the application model that apply to all campus software packagers, they will be posted here.  However, several guidelines have been outlined within the policy document that could be considered useful, so if you’re looking for a place to start, reading that document is recommended.

Specific Applications

Google Filestream – by default Google Filestream tries to map a drive to G:\. Many groups already use that drive letter for other reasons. By default the NCSU level Google Filestream application will map to Q:\. This is a registry setting and can be easily changed by an OU Admin with a Group Policy Preference Item.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Google\DriveFS\DefaultMountPoint = <Desired Drive Letter>

After the user logs out and back in Google with map the drive to the new letter.

You should also add an exception for Filestream to your Antimalware application.
